Financial integrity
‘For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.’ (1 Tim. 6:10).
Definition of integrity
Dictionary defines ‘integrity’ as honesty in character.
Integrity has to do with authenticity.
People of integrity do not have two faces. As far as they are concerned what you see is what you get. Such people are not motivated by hidden agendas.
Integrity has to do with courage
People of integrity have the courage to stand up for their convictions. They are ready to pay the price for their principles.
Christian integrity involves acting according to the Bible
Christians are not only to be consistent, but they consistently live in a Biblical manner.
The foundation for integrity lies with God
God’s standard for integrity reflects His own nature. Christian integrity involves living in such a way that our lives mirror God’s own nature. The conduct of people of integrity shows what God is like.
Is money, the root of all kind of evil?
The Bible says: ‘The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.’ (1 Tim. 6:10). The love of money is a root of evil, because some people love money more than they love God. Jesus said that man cannot serve God and Mammon (the false god of riches). (Matt. 6:24)
The use of money can be very worthwhile. It can be used to build orphanages, hospitals and schools, to feed the poor, to preach the Gospel, to educate people in righteousness, to establish churches, and to proclaim the Word. Money is needed to print Bibles and Christian books and to promote evangelistic meetings. There is nothing basically wrong with money itself.
The main question is, how is money obtained and what is money being used for? Is it obtained through diligent work? Is it being used for God’s glory, or for our own pleasure? Is it being used to support our pride, or is it being used for a higher purpose?
Money as such is not the root of all kinds of evil. This root is in our hearts. The love of money is a root of many kinds of evil.
We have to allow God to control our pockets and bank accounts!
