Invitation from the Apostle Paul

In order to encourage us to live godly lives, the Apostle Paul (on the basis of Ephesians 5) invites us to the following places:

1. Temple (Eph. 5, 1–7)

In the temple the Apostle reminds us of the sacrifice the Lord Jesus made for us. Sin is ugly and a stench in God’s nostrils (Isa. 3, 24).

If we walk in love, our lives will be living sacrifices (Rom. 12, 1–2; Phil. 2, 17), fragrant to the Lord (John 12, 1–8).

2. Field (Eph. 5, 8–14)

Then the Apostle Paul goes to the field to show us fruits and reminds us that walking in the light produces spiritual fruit (Gal. 5, 22–23).

If we walk in the light, we cannot have fellowship with the darkness (2 Cor. 6, 14–18).

3. Business place (Eph. 5, 15–17)

Then the Apostle Paul takes us to the business place and exhorts us to be like good merchants who know how to buy up an opportunity.
If we walk in wisdom, we use our time wisely.

4. Banqueting hall (Eph. 5, 18–21)

Then we follow the Apostle to the banqueting hall (Eph. 5, 18-19), where we can learn how to walk in the Spirit (Gal. 5, 16-26).
If we walk in the Spirit, we will be joyful, thankful and submissive one to another.

5. Home (Eph. 5, 22–33)

The last visit of the Apostle Paul’s is to the home, where he uses marriage as a picture of the relationship between Christ and the church. Christ loved us and died for us, but today He loves us and cares for us. This intimate life is pictured in the Song of Solomon and can be a reality for all who will yield to Him.

If we are submissive to the Lord Jesus, we will become a blessing to others.

James N. Spurgeon wrote:

'A job is at your choice; a ministry is at Christ's call. In a job you expect to receive; in a ministry you expect to give. In a job you give something to get something; in a ministry you return something that has already been given to you. A job depends on your abilities; a ministry depends on your availability to God. A job done well brings you praise; a ministry done well brings honour to Christ.'

This ministry is to bring honour to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
