Serving God as a family

We have more and more families where children do not follow the Lord. God wants  families to serve Him.

God’s given rules

  • Father (Eph. 5,23; 1 Tim. 3, 4-5).

The father must lead the family by:

Teaching God’s Word (direction),
Praying with the family,
Living as an example,
Loving his wife and children,
Showing compassion and firmness,

  • Mother (Prov. 31, 25-28; Tit. 2, 3-5).

The mother must fulfill her role at home by:

Caring for the physical and spiritual needs of her husband and children,
Making her home a priority (atmosphere),
Dedicating herself to a role of help-meet.

  • Children (Prov. 1, 8; Eph. 6,1-2; Prov. 23, 24-25).

Children must honour and obey their parents in the Lord.

Good traits of Job (Job 1, 1-5).
Job feared God, shunned evil (verse 1) and worshipped God (verse 5). As a good father, he lived an upright life before his God and children.
He cared for their physical and spiritual needs. He prayed for them that their sins would be forgiven and that they would walk uprightly.

Abraham, an outstanding character as a godly father (Genesis 18, 19).
Abraham believed fully that God’s Word is truth, wisdom and blessing for himself and his children. Therefore, he commanded his children to walk in the ways of the Lord as he himself walked before Him.
As a father, he cultivated obedience in his children.

God wants  families to serve Him.

James N. Spurgeon wrote:

'A job is at your choice; a ministry is at Christ's call. In a job you expect to receive; in a ministry you expect to give. In a job you give something to get something; in a ministry you return something that has already been given to you. A job depends on your abilities; a ministry depends on your availability to God. A job done well brings you praise; a ministry done well brings honour to Christ.'

This ministry is to bring honour to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
